My Humble Food Beginning

We’re just getting to know one another and a relationship is built on honesty, so I must admit- I’m just okay. I’m very much a mediocre chef, really the okay-est of them all (more accurately okayest home cook, okayest chef just had a better ring to it). Being just okay I rely heavily on recipes, but that’s where the idea for the blog was born…the need for a recipe. My passion and curiosity for cooking blossomed in 2018. Yup, you read that right; only a year ago. I did not grow up with an inspiring kitchen role model or a Rolodex of recipes. I survived off Shicken and meatballs. Shicken, which if you came to my house was affectionately named “shit chicken.”

Our family routine became my mother attempting to cook, the food would be tasteless and dinner would end up being eating out at a restaurant. In my mother’s defense she makes a mean elevated boxed brownie – it’s her staple.

In 2016, I had my first experience chicken under the supervision of my best friend. I also routinely made over easy eggs. In 2018, my passion and curiosity for cooking really started to grow. I turned to television. Master Chef, Worst Cooks in America, and the Great British Baking Show (all fantastic). With my desire to uphold the Okay-est Chef title and my love of pop culture, the idea for my culinary blogging journey was born.

I love Celebrities, more specifically, those with cook books. I’m all about them; I’m looking at you Chrissy Teigen and Antoni Porowski. There are a bazillion blogs, social media accounts, cookbooks, magazines, etc. all showing “instagramable” dishes and delicious sounding recipes…this is not that blog.

This is the “Nailed It” version of food blogs. I’m not going to present you with perfect end dishes or staged photographs. This is total transparency in the kitchen. I’m going to attempt different celebrity recipes. I might ruin a recipe. I’ll most likely burn something. I might completely hate one and you’ll know about it. Either way it should be fun and a bit messy!

I can promise you this, it will be relatable.

Phew. If you made it to the end of this long post, thank you. I promise they won’t all ramble on, but we’re going on the journey together so I wanted you to have a chance to get to know me.

Let’s get messy!

-The Okayest Chef
